The Story & Themes of Play The Flute

Play the Flute, the latest movie from Christian filmmaker Rich Christiano, is now available on DVD and Digital. Rich, along with his twin brother Dave, have been writing, directing, and producing Christian movies since 1985. Some of Rich’s other films include Time Changer, The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry, Unidentified and A Matter of Faith.

Play the Flute is the story of Brandon Cobb (Brett Varvel), a new Youth Director who takes over a youth group that’s filled with spiritual apathy. As he tries to motivate his students to get serious about their relationship with the Lord, he finds himself in an uphill battle. Although discouraged by their indifference, Brandon sticks to his calling of boldly sharing the truth of God's Word. What happens next is something Brandon and his students will never forget!

“There are a number of messages in this film that I hope will encourage viewers in the Christian life,” Rich Christiano says. “Dealing with integrity, making fun of or influencing others, and spiritual indifference to name a few. I believe the main message in this film, about getting serious about the LORD, is as important as any we have ever put forth in one of our films.”

The movie features an excellent cast including Brett Varvel as the lead who plays the Youth Director. Other cast members include Sean Ormond, Kennedy Tucker, Ken Ivy, Alix Schwartz and Kylie Brown who play five youth group students. Some name talent includes veteran actors Clint Howard, Fred Grandy (Gopher from the Love Boat TV Series) and Loretta Swit from MASH fame.

“We read 900 students to cast the five lead youth group members but it was worth it to find the right mix of talent," Rich said. "And it was fun to work with seasoned vets such as Clint, Fred and Loretta, who bring their talents and professionalism to the film.”

Play the Flute has played in approximately 170 theaters prior to its release on DVD and Digital.

“We showed this film to audiences of all ages, including senior adults," Rich said. "This isn’t just a film for teenagers. It has a message, a very important message, for everyone."
